Kaedin's Minecraft World

Kaedin's first MOC for public display:
  A Massive  Minecraft World

Kaedin's first build for public display, this massive Minecraft MOC combines every Minecraft Lego set ever made (at least one of each set in it's complete form -  But in many cases, the moc includes multiple copies, many that have been transformed into custom builds). Kaedin began designing the idea for this huge MOC in December of 2015 when he was just FOUR years old! (M.O.C. stands for "My Own Creation" in the Lego World!)

For Christmas, he requested all of the Minecraft Lego sets that existed at that time (There were about ten). He also asked for space to build and combine them all, and his project officially kicked off in November 2016- Kaedin was just *five years old*.

The entire first part of his project (4' x 8') took him more than four months to be ready for his first show. Being homeschooled, he often worked early in the morning, and sometimes late into the night. He would sometimes work for short periods and then spend a lot of time playing, and other times he would build for a solid 8 hour stretch.

This project is ENTIRELY Kaedin's creation. Despite the fact that he was only 5 years old when it started, he rarely asked for any help, and the help he did request was "Can you reach this?" He also needed a LOT of Lego for his builds, and so his mom, Kristie, inherited the boring but important job of hunting down more new and used Lego for the project - as it was QUICKLY getting expensive and he needed a LOT more parts!

Kaedin did have assistance with a few small details of the project early on, such as wiring the lighting under the lava & the waterfall - but it was still his idea how to implement the lighting and where it would be used. After two significant structural collapses,  his mom helped with a few ideas to fix some of the structural issues around the largest mountain where the waterfall is. It had collapsed several times & he thought about giving up because he wasn't sure he could get the project done in time for the April 2017 Brickfest convention in Philadelphia.

With some suggestions on how to better support the waterfall - Kaedin was back on track and he finished the first leg of the project just hours before his dad, Justin, had to disassemble the large sections (the first four pieces were all build as 4'x2' parts, a lesson we learned the hard way was NOT ideal! Kaedin's parents were responsible for getting the build to the convention center- where together they helped to set it all back up for display.

Kaedin's first show was a big success, but unfortunately, by the fourth day of the convention, Kaedin wasn't feeling well. Not wanting him to miss out on the opportunity to reach a large audience because he missed out on a video interview with the famous Lego YouTube channel Beyond the Brick; his mom Kristie stepped up and did the interview for him.

At that first event, Kaedin's build was entered to win in the "Best Collaboration" category, even though his build wasn't a collaboration.  There were no categories for kids, or any other categories that his build would fit into, so he was happy enough to be recognized, but he didn't win. We are extremely proud of his efforts anyway!

Brickfest April 2018

Pictures from Brickfest 2017 (our first Lego convention- just Kaedin and his mommy made it to the event because of his daddy's schedule with work. Kristie and Kaedin had a ROUGH, painful weekend with very little sleep and a LOT of work... but thanks to the kindness of other AFOLs, several new Lego friends, we had a wonderful time and can't wait to see everyone with an even bigger, better creation at Minefaire in October!
